We Track Your Money In a Workers’ Comp Claim

Feb 24, 2025 | Compensability

One of the biggest differences between a workers’ compensation claim and a personal injury lawsuit is how benefits are paid. In a personal injury case, the injured person typically waits until the end of the case to receive a settlement check. In a Colorado workers’ compensation claim, however, the insurance company may make payments throughout the claim for medical treatment, wage-loss benefits, and other benefits provided by law. We track your money in a Workers’ Comp Claim by monitoring every payment the insurance company makes from the beginning of your case, helping ensure your benefits are accurate, complete, and fully accounted for.

Why We Track EVERY PENNY for Injured Workers in Colorado

Workers’ Compensation is different because the insurance company is paying out checks all the time; they’re paying to the doctors, to the physical therapists, for mileage, to you for lost wages every two weeks, among other benefits. Additionally, perhaps at the end, there might be a settlement check on top of that.

The importance of keeping track of money

We keep track of all those checks, and at the end of every case, we make sure the insurance company has paid out exactly what they said they were supposed to pay.

At least 1 out of 10 times we find out that the insurance company didn’t pay what they said they paid. The injured person believes everything was paid for, but when we start running all the numbers that were admitted versus what has been paid, something is missing.

We always look for the last penny to make sure you get paid what you deserve. We track everything from the beginning to the end, including before we were on the case, to make sure the insurance company pays everything.

Here is the transcript for the video:

0:00 well it’s the week before Thanksgiving
0:03 and our here kappa morel and i’m in one
0:07 of our fabulously luxurious conference
0:10 rooms we call this the km mexico
0:13 conference room and i’m here with a team
0:16 member of ours or Annika say hi Veronica
0:19 one moment veronica has been with us for
0:24 at least over seven years and Veronica
0:29 is somebody that most of our clients
0:31 meet because there we go Veronica’s one
0:36 of the clients that our team members
0:39 made particularly when it comes to most
0:41 important thing other than medical care
0:43 and that is money money money
0:46 often times clients will ask me well
0:48 what’s going on with my money and I’ll
0:49 say I don’t know Veronica knows and so
0:52 meadow is then oh tracks we think who do
0:57 we calculate like close to seven eight
1:01 million dollars of checks every year
1:04 probably probably every year so one of
1:06 the big differences between workers
1:08 compensation cases and like personal
1:10 injury cases or other kinds of lawsuits
1:13 is there is only one check in those
1:24 is if you sue if you’re in a motor
1:28 vehicle accident used to somebody who’s
1:30 responsible that person isn’t going to
1:32 pay anything until the very very end and
1:34 then they write one check and one check
1:36 only and that one check has to cover
1:38 everything in workers compensation it’s
1:40 different because the insurance company
1:42 particularly in admitted claims they’re
1:45 paying out checks all the time they’re
1:46 paying checks to the doctors they’re
1:48 paying checks to the physical therapists
1:50 they’re to paying checks for mileage
1:52 they’re paying you checks for lost wages
1:54 every two weeks when years getting lost
1:57 wages if you have an impairment rating
1:58 they’re paying that out and every two
2:01 weeks
2:01 etc and then maybe at the end and often
2:04 at the end there might be a settlement
2:06 check on top of that well how do we
2:09 track all those checks well I can tell
2:11 you I have Veronica who tracks all those
2:14 checks and so we track everything and
2:17 one of the things that we do which
2:18 Veronica loves and as we say it’s kind
2:21 of job security is at the end of every
2:25 case we we make sure that the insurance
2:29 company has paid out exactly what they
2:33 said that they were supposed to pay out
2:35 and Veronica how often do you find where
2:40 the insurance company says well we paid
2:42 this and that
2:44 they didn’t quite often why often if I I
2:48 can say maybe one out of ten times at
2:53 least I see that happening sometimes
2:55 more often than that than that but the
2:57 eyes amazing how sometimes they decline
3:01 or in this case injured person believes
3:03 everything was paid for and when I
3:05 started running all the numbers that
3:07 were admitted versus walk has been paid
3:09 there is something that is missing and
3:11 we always look for the last penny to
3:13 make sure you got paid what you deserve
3:15 and we don’t have Rhonda here today rung
3:19 as an attorney with us who used to work
3:21 for 20 years for defense firms with
3:25 insurance companies but she will tell
3:27 you and then Michael so who worked with
3:29 other firms will tell you we are the
3:31 only firm that that you know of that
3:33 tracks everything from beginning to end
3:35 including before we were on the case to
3:38 through the case to make sure that when
3:41 the insurance company says that they
3:42 paid you fifty seven thousand three
3:44 hundred twenty two dollars and fifty two
3:46 cents in lost wages and twenty thousand
3:49 forty two in impairment rating money we
3:53 make sure that they’ve actually paid it
3:54 out and then we track to the clients
3:56 where that money went
3:57 that is a long exhausting process and
4:00 that’s why I have you do it rather than
4:03 me right but then that’s your background
4:06 I mean you are in Ames and you’ve got
4:08 your degree and I mean or something
4:13 right basket weaving well then this was
4:18 a good choice that
4:19 yes actually I enjoy working with number
4:21 so so as you can tell one of us was born
4:26 in Idaho and one of us was born in
4:29 Mexico well the person who was born in
4:31 Idaho please raise his or her hand so we
4:37 will because it’s about Thanksgiving I’m
4:41 gonna have Veronica tell you in English
4:44 well what are you doing for your Idaho
4:47 Thanksgiving lots of potatoes I guess I
4:51 don’t have a plan yet you don’t I always
4:54 you’re just gonna show up in laws so
5:00 Veronica why don’t you tell us in
5:02 English what you are thankful for and
5:06 then I will interpret being from Mexico
5:08 for you so why don’t you tell us what
