How To Choose The Best Lawyer For Your Case – You should look for 5 things when hiring an attorney:

1. How long have they been in their practice?

They should have at least 5 years of experience in their area of law, otherwise you might be their guinea pig.

2. What is their case load?

If they tell you they do criminal, family, immigration, property, etc., then you have what we call “a jack of all trades and master of none”.

The law now is getting so complicated and changes so fast in any particular area, and to be up on your game as to all the new laws it takes a lot of devotion, and we don’t think it’s possible if you’re trying to do five areas of law, at most it should be two and they should be complimentary. For example, we help injured workers get Workers’ Compensation benefits and Social Security benefits.

3. What organizations are they a member of?

They should belong to attorneys who help people deal with what you are having to deal with. So, if you’re looking for a divorce lawyer you want someone who’s a member of the Colorado Divorce Lawyer Association.

4. We belong to the Workers’ Compensation Education Association.

What this means is it is the preeminent and the only legal bar for Colorado attorneys who represent injured workers, which means 3 things, and you should look for these things in your attorney:

4a. They’re serious about what we do

4b. They lobby the legislature for their clients

4c. They’re part of a network that can get even more help and advice for their clients

5. Go with a small firm.

With a large law firm, there’s a real risk that you just become part of the assembly line and all you are is just one more case that they need to quickly settle in order to meet their massive payroll. With a small firm, we have the luxury of being able to give clients individual attention and treat their cases as uniquely as they are because every case is different.
