Social Security Benefits To Go (Mostly) Paperless On March 1st

Aug 22, 2014 | WC & Other Laws

As we previously noted, The US Treasury Department will require Social Security benefit checks to be either direct deposited to a bank account or to a debit card as of March 1, 2013.  If you are currently receiving some type of Social Security benefit by paper check, with a few exceptions, you will need to switch to an electronic payment very soon.

The change to electric payments is estimated to save taxpayers about $120 million over paper checks.  For more information see GoDirect.org.
